History of the villa

Fabio Cicogna was one of the earliest environmentalists in this part of Italy. In the seventies, he already realized the detrimental effects of human intervention on the environment, especially on marine life. He moved from Milan to Massa Lubrense and built this villa to be near his main research and beloved Costiera Sorrentina and Amalfitana, this is the reason the villa is called Villa Cicogna.

He was the one, who after many fights with local interest groups, established  Parco Marino of Punta Campanella and its surrounding area which is still in effect and more or less enforced. He wrote two books on the corals of the Mediterranean and in his villa, he maintained a research and conference center.

He was an utterly charming old-world gentleman, a fencing champion, and a ladies’ man beside his many important professional achievements.

The villa was the other project closer to his heart, that he dedicated time, effort, and money. He had the most famous architect of Naples, Pica Ciamarra designed the house and had the engineers and other professionals working from Milan with the best of local craftsmen. He loved this home. After selling the villa, he moved back to the North, to Rapallo where after only a few years, he died.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

The construction of the villa Cicogna dates back to the 1970s and was designed by one of the most important architects in Italy, Pica Ciamara, using carefully treated local materials. It has appeared in several publications and specialized magazines and even today the main University in Naples, Federico II study this villa in the architectural course.

Hard to believe, but the villa had solar panels installed in 1978 on the roof for hot water production. This concept of environmental friendliness is followed by the present owners, who installed new Solar panels and Photovoltaic Panels and heat pumps for a cleaner energy production, and the pool water is maintained using salt and natural products rather than chlorine and other harmful chemicals. In the garden, he had many exotic plants and fruit trees brought in, many unknown to the local gardeners.
